Wildlife In Its Natural Habitat

Poma Outfitting's customized wilderness trips provide participants with the opportunity to view a diversity of animals in their natural habitat. Adventurers should be sure to bring their binoculars, cameras and video cameras so they can observe, or capture on film, the beauty of these creatures not often seen elsewhere.

Herds of mule dear, elk, bighorn sheep, moose, and mountain goats are frequently sighted, as well as mountain lion, grouse, and turkey. Beaver, river otter and several species of duck and waterfowl indigenous to the area can be found in the many mountain lakes and streams.

In addition, Poma Outfitting's wilderness excursions offer bird-watchers the perfect opportunity to observe the avian species in its natural habitat, as over 300 species of common and exotic birds occupy the San Juan National Forest. Even the endangered bald eagle and peregrine falcon have been spotted within the region.
